(2.5-hour drive/all day trip)
(Monday; 8:30 AM-1:00 PM) – Tawas Point State Park, Tawas, MI (park pass/fee may be required)
We will meet at the Tawas Point Lighthouse area at 8:30 AM and from there travel the peninsula trail and lake shore where we should find an abundance of migratory birds and Monarch Butterflies.
This is a light hike (1-2 miles of fairly level terrain). Required: Binoculars and spotting scope (optional), layers of clothes, a hat, and bring a lunch/snacks/drink. Expect wind and changing weather/temperatures.
Other local highlights could include Tuttle Marsh, travels along Ausable Scenic Byway (which includes steep stairs – for the hearty), and the town of Tawas City. (686 Tawas Beach Rd., East Tawas, MI 58730)
