DESCRIPTION:(1.25-hour drive/half-day trip) \nSeptember 26 th (Saturday; 8:30 AM-12:00 Noon) – Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge\, Saginaw\, MI\n(no park pass/fee required) \nWe will meet at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters parking lot at 8:30 AM (bring snacks/drink). This amazing 10\,000-acre wildlife refuge is a migratory funneling location to behold\, with vast expanses of field\, forest\, and diked areas teaming with a wide variety of fowl and fauna. \nThe auto tour is 7 miles long and requires frequent stops along the way for your viewing pleasure. DESCRIPTION:(45-minute drive/2-hour viewing) \nNovember 7 th (Saturday; 4:00 PM-6:00 PM) – Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary\, Grass Lake\, MI (no park pass/fee required) \nWe will meet at the Sanctuary parking lot at 4:00 PM. This is Michigan Audubon’s largest bird sanctuary\, located in Jackson County. Each Fall hundreds of Sandhill Cranes congregate in the evening during migration\, flying overhead in “V” formation. As we await their arrival\, Steve Jerrant\, Sanctuary Steward will give a brief talk on the Sanctuary and lead a short walk (1 mile or less). \nBinoculars and Spotting scope are essential.
